Valeria Montti Colque

Collaboration with Chilean-Swedish artist Valeria Montti Colque began in 2020. Montti Colque’s practice invites audiences, communities, and friends into a dense artistic worlds. Drawing from her experiences as part of the Chilean and Latin American diaspora in Europe, she collaborates with an expanding community of artist and practitioners, creating immersive works, installations, and performances. Ccharacters, gods, and mythological figures dance, sing, and carry entire homes and cosmologies on their backs, incorporating symbolic names from the Andean cosmovision and a unending mix of languages, mediums, environments, and stories.

The new website developed for Montti Colque immerses viewers in her world through short films, looping animations, and layered images, allowing the visitors to explore her work in both its expansive environments and intimate details.

In collaboration with Lars Høie, we designed a new typeface that embraces many different details, ligatures, and alternates, while creating a coherent character to accompany the complexity of her work.

In 2024, Montti Colque was selected to represent Chile in the 60th Venice Biennale in 2024, with the proposal “Cosmonación” by curator Andrea Pacheco. We contributed by providing support for the presentation of her work throughout the selection process, as well as assisting in the production of a 22×9 meter fabric print that spanned the entire length of the pavilion.

Over the summer of 2024, Montti Colque presented a new public installation and outdoor performance commissioned by Public Art Agency Sweden for the OpenArt Biennial in Örebro. We made new collage works for the posters that communicated these works and the accompanying series of workshops from June–November 2024. These images reworked some of Montti Colque’s existing works, while adding new elements into festive, magical scenes that invite audiences to participate in this expansive celebration of the multitudes of life.
